Causes of Bags Under Eyes

  • Some allergies cause puffiness and/or black circles under the eye.
  • Some of the problem could be due to low kidney function.
  • Obesity or a simple lack of sleep and rest can also be the culprit.
  • Eye strain and stress has been known to bags under eyes.
  • Smoking cigarettes and a poor diet that does not contain enough skin-enhancing vitamins can also exacerbate the problem.

Eye bags are filled with fat deposits and/or water, so there are a number of ways to treat them.

Green tea will help if under eye bags are caused by water retention. A couple of used tea bags placed over the entire eye area and left on for a half hour will have a positive effect. A similar treatment is cucumber slices, used the same way, or anything cold that can be left on the eyes will temporarily help.

Another approach is to use products that tighten the skin - like hemorrhoid treatments. Bags under eyes respond almost immediately, but the "lift" only lasts a few hours.

Get enough sleep, don't overuse your eyes and quit smoking ... But if those aren't enough, there are medical procedures that will help with eye bag removal. Eye bag surgery is an option, but should be considered the last resort. Other medical solutions include Restylane and Juvederm, two skin tighteners used to fight wrinkles.

An eye lift is a more permanent solution to puffy eyes, although rather expensive and not covered by most insurance. However, if this is the option that you choose, you won't be worrying about under eye bags for another twenty years or more!

Eye bags can be frustrating, but with these tips, you'll know how to get rid of bags under eyes and prevent them from coming back again in the future.
